Braces

The original. Still the best for tough cases.

Modern braces are smaller, lower-profile, and more comfortable than the ones you remember. Nothing else moves teeth as reliably.

What are braces?
Braces use small brackets and a thin wire to apply steady, gentle pressure that moves your teeth into position. Simple system, decades of refinement, and still the most predictable way to handle a complex case.

At Hillside we use Damon braces—a self-ligating system that holds the wire with a small built-in door instead of elastic ties. That means less friction, gentler tooth movement, and often fewer, shorter visits. The brackets are smaller and more comfortable than older generations. The hardware has come a long way—the principle hasn't. We plan your treatment carefully, keep appointments efficient, and tell you what to expect at every step. No assembly line. No surprises.

Treatment Steps

1
Free consultation & treatment plan

We evaluate your teeth, take a 3D scan, and show you exactly what to expect—timeline, cost, and the best appliance for your case.

2
Brackets on, treatment begins

We bond the Damon brackets in a single visit, usually about an hour. You'll leave knowing how to care for them, what to eat, and what to expect in the first few days.

3
Adjustments every 6–8 weeks

Short, efficient visits to swap wires and keep things on track. Damon brackets don't need elastic ties to hold the wire, so appointments tend to be quicker than with traditional braces. Kids and teens who want to have a little fun can add colored ties to decorate their braces—totally optional.

4
Braces off, retainer fitted

Once your teeth reach their final position, the brackets come off and we fit your custom retainer the same day.

Common questions

Will I have to commit to treatment at the first visit?

Not at all—there's zero pressure. You'll leave with a written summary of your treatment plan and pricing to take home and think over. Call us when you're ready, whether that's next week or six months from now. That said, if you already know you want to get started, we can often begin the same day—just let us know and we'll make it happen.

Do braces hurt?

Most people feel some soreness for a few days after braces go on and after adjustments—usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods. It fades quickly, and the Damon system is designed for gentler, lower-force movement than older braces.

How much do braces cost, and do you offer payment plans?

Most cases fall in the $5,500–$7,500 range, and we'll give you an exact number at your free consultation. We offer in-house payment plans and work with most insurance—we'll help you understand your benefits before you commit to anything.

Will braces affect my daily life—eating, sports, playing an instrument?

Mostly no. You'll want to avoid hard and sticky foods that can damage brackets, and we'll send you home with a clear list. For sports we recommend a mouthguard, and most musicians adjust within a week or two.

How often will I actually need to come in?

Every 6–8 weeks for a short visit. We respect your time—no unnecessary appointments, and we'll work around school and work schedules where we can.

Can adults get braces, or is it just for kids?

Absolutely—we treat patients of all ages. A healthy bite and a smile you like are worth it at any age, and Damon braces work just as well for adults.

What's the difference between braces and clear aligners—and which is right for me?

Both braces and clear aligners can deliver amazing results. Braces stay on your teeth and do the work for you, while clear aligners are removable, nearly invisible, and fit easily into most lifestyles. The right choice depends on your smile, your goals, and your daily routine. At your consultation, we'll walk you through the pros and cons of each option and help you choose the treatment that's right for you—without any pressure or guesswork.

Will I have to commit to treatment at the first visit?

No. You'll leave with a written summary of your treatment plan and pricing. Take it home, think it over, and call us when you're ready — whether that's next week or six months from now.
